Women in Charge: A Forum on Women's Leadership,

Fordham University Lincoln Center, Manhattan, New York, New York, United States Fordham University Lincoln Center, Manhattan, New York, New York, United States

  • About the event

This forum convenes young women in high school and college with professional women in leadership roles in New York City. It will focus on such sectors as Business & Entrepreneurship; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); Sexual Health & Reproductive Rights; Yoga & Meditation; and Beauty/Body Image. The panelists will offer their expertise in their respective roles to educate, motivate, and empower attendees to pursue these fields. By engaging with professional women, our attendees will  feel inspired to pursue a meaningful career of their own. We aim to have our panelists serve as role models to further advance our goals to ignite leadership in our communities. This will also motivate attendees to assert themselves in some traditionally male-dominated fields.

    Why should you sponsor?

We recognize women's contributions, commitment, and struggle towards making the world a greater place full of leadership opportunities. However, we require the cooperation and support of established leaders to raise young women to dream big and achieve their goals. Without major stakeholders in society collaborating with women and girls, we will continue to engage in a zero sum game, perpetuating the ongoing circumstances that leave young women out of the conversation.

One Girl believes in centering women's voices, but we believe that simply inviting women to the professional table is insufficient. Rather, we must integrate women into spheres of life-changing careers. We must call upon the world's game-changers to integrate and invest in young women's talent by meeting them halfway. After all, a solid, sustainable, and thriving world cannot exist so long as we exclude half the population. Reversing this norm will stimulate economies, increase the capacity of communities, and inspire future generations to observe all genders as equal in ability. Clearly, investing in young women is beneficial to all.

Integration into the public and private sectors for sustainable development of the global community must be prioritized. This is a call to action for influencers, leaders, and professionals to take a pledge: inspire young women, engage them in important work, and support their endeavors at every stage of professional development. As Melinda Gates remarked at the Most Powerful Women Summit, "It's not enough to just talk about women and girls. We have to be willing to stand up and say, 'I'm willing to fund some of these things."
