Victorian NAIDOC is a voluntary not for profit committee auspice by the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, we run a number of community events for Victorian Aboriginal people, our philosophy is to keep people connected through culture and celebration. We are a state-wide committee with a very small budget and no paid workers.
We are running an old style Country and Western Cabaret with a particular target audience of Aboriginal elders, the Cabaret has been at the request of an elder in the community who says that NAIDOC which is commonly known to be celebrated in July, is too cold for elders to come our of their homes. So this year this is for those elders.
We have ticket prices at $30 which just covers the cost of food, we are catering for 350 people. The Collingwood Town Hall has historic significance to Aboriginal Victorian people where cabarets were always held in the late 70's early 80's.
