About the event
Fight With ME was created to honor our daughter Miranda Eckard, who passed away after a nearly 3 year battle with rhabdomyosarcoma. We grant scholarships to graduating seniors at East Lincoln High School each year and give gifts to teens in our area fighting cancer.
We are so thankful for the generosity of family, friends, and community members that allow us to fulfill our mission. Since 2015 we have given over $27,000 in scholarships and gifts.
Miranda was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in September 2011. She fought for nearly 3 years, going into remission briefly and relapsing twice. She passed away on July 26th, 2014. Since that night we have kept a light on in her room. It is a daily reminder of the light she brought to our lives, of her spirit and her strength. While that light is a personal reminder to us, we hope to share her light with so many others. So much about her remained unchanged when she was sick. She was smart, funny, stubborn, and always knew what she wanted. She worked incredibly hard to not just keep up with school, but stay at the top of her class. Her hospital room is where all the nurses and doctors wanted to be. Through it all Miranda kept everyone on their toes, made her own decisions, and never ever lost her smile.
The Carolina Beer Mixer is a celebration with food, fun, and friends (and a few adult beverages) to celebrate what would have been Miranda's 22nd birthday at Free Range Brewing. The March 29th event will feature catering, two (or more) beers per ticket from Free Range Brewing, a customized logo beanie for each guest, and a silent auction. We are a 501c3 corporation and will provide documentation for your donation. Your name will also be mentioned on our social media accounts, shown on thank you slides throughout the event, and on the description of the auction item (unless you wish to remain anonymous). We will recognize each sponsor during a speech at the event as well.
The first event, held last year at the same venue, had over 150 attendees. We are hoping to have 200 in attendance this year, with more auction items. Last year’s event raised $11,000. Fight With ME received $6,000 after all expenses without sponsors. As you can see, sponsorship would alleviate some of our costs and ensure that all funds raised at the event go directly to our scholarships and gifts for teens and kids fighting cancer in our area. Our goal this year is to double our net total and reach $12,000 after all expenses
Why should you sponsor?
Your sponsorship or donation to the auction would allow us to continue honoring Miranda's life and spirit. Fight With ME would be honored to have your company be a partner in our mission to honor Miranda’s life by supporting teens (and their families) receiving treatment for cancer in our area, and granting annual scholarships at East Lincoln High School.
I am Jennifer Eckard, Miranda's mother. My husband and I started this charity as a way to put memorials made to her to use in our community and in a way Miranda would approve. Miranda is the "ME" in Fight With ME. Celebrating her life and continuing her spirit is our purpose in this organization and in our lives.
