Hansel & Gretel is a favorite of children and families everywhere, and this holiday season, the Amore Opera will present Humperdinck’s beloved opera in a sparkling English translation for four daytime performances during the week after Christmas.  This tuneful opera follows Hansel & Gretel’s adventures in the forest as they try to outwit the Witch and free all of the Gingerbread Children.

Amore Opera’s charming production  features both an adult cast of some of the country’s best young opera singers along with the children from the Amore Opera Academy with live Orchestra under the direction of Richard Owen.

    Amore Opera

The mission of Amore Opera Company is to entertain, educate and nurture music appreciation in youth, seniors, and community members through live performances of classical and overlooked operas that are affordable to all audience segments.

Amore Opera also supports the creative development of artists by providing a venue for singers and musicians, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or age. Amore's overarching goals are: (1) to provide complete, well-known, and overlooked 18th and 19th century operas in a unique, intimate setting; (2) to provide training and performance opportunities to amateur and aspiring opera singers; and (3) to introduce children to opera as performers and audience members.

Amore was founded in 2009 as the successor to Amato Opera, which ran for 61 years.  When Tony Amato retired and sold his "smallest Grand Opera House in the World," a group of his singers and instrumentalists decided to continue his mission and, with the gift of the Amato costumes and sets for 30 productions, they founded the Amore Opera Company.

The Company has performed at the Connelly Theater and The Sheen Center in the East Village and will be in residence at the St. Jean Theater on East 76th Street in New York City for 2016-17.  We anticipate total audience of 5,500 for the current season.

Amore productions reflect high production values, including a full orchestra, lighting, and the resources of the company’s inventory of sets and costumes.
