About the event
The first of 6 events during the year of 2016, this event will take place on December 18, 2015 at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. All other events will benefit different non-profits throughout San Antonio who contriute to the prevention, education and testing of social and health issues of our community.
SA United is a non-profit is San Antonio, Texas that, through our entertainment partners, produces quality concerts and events to benefit local other non-profits thatprovide prevention, education and testing of various social and health issues of our community.
Our first event will be to bring awareness about the dangers and life changing illnesses Syphilis and HIV.
The most current available data from the Texas Department of State Health Services shows that HIV and Syphilis are a major concern for San Antonio and Bexar County area. As of December 31st, 2013, the rate of HIV infection was 380 newly diagnosed for the year. That figure is up from 305 in 2005. As of December 31st, 2015, the rate of Syphilis was 1,116, up from 450 in 2006. Bexar County leads the state in Syphilis cases throughout all of Texas and is ranked number 4 in the United States.
Currently, there are several agencies throughout the Bexar County area that are working to help combat this issue. These agencies offer a variety of services to include Prevention Education, Testing, and Treatment. These agencies play a vital role in our community, as they are on the front-lines fighting this battle.
The average time for HIV testing has been cut from 7 working days, to only 60 seconds. The organizations that would benefit from this event would offer Prevention Education and Testing to general public at no cost.
Through our partners, The Red Ribbon Gala will offer a nationally named artist/entertainer to approximately 5,000 patrons, with on-site HIV and Syphilis testing by local organizations. The media coverage is expected to be overwhelming as this is the first of such an event and the attention that this subject requires.
The goal of this event is to provide additional Testing and Prevention Education to a larger base of our population. In 2014, the San Antonio AIDS Foundation alone provided Prevention Education to over 25,500 student in our area and over 5,500 free HIV tests to the public. Success of this event will be measured by an increase in the number of educations and testing in our area through 4 organizations. In 2016, it is our goal for these organizations to increase their services by at leats 10% to our community.
