About the event
Herança Cultural Capoeira, an international capoeira school originating from Brazil, will be holding its grand opening in Chicago, IL - USA May 28th, 2016. The event will consist of a workshop with Mestre Catitu, the leader and creator of the school, and the first batizado (belt ceremony) for students. We will also be hosting a workshop with Mestra Mara (Herança Cultural Brazil) on Thursday, May 26th and an open street roda on Friday, May 27th, leading up to the big event. In addition to Mestre Catitu and Mestra Mara, we are bringing Professor Neguinho from Herança Cultural Brazil to provide leadership for the event. All capoeiristas and anyone interested in capoeira and Brazilian culture are welcome to come to the event. There will be guests in attendance from all over the US and abroad.
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that was created by African slaves as a tool for liberation disguised as a dance. The art is now practiced worldwide and teaches balance, strength, agility, motor coordination, acrobatics, dance, culture, music and the Portuguese language.
We are seeking sponsors to support our event to cover cost such as plane tickets (for the invited guests from Brazil), space rental, t-shirt printing, and food and lodging for the guests. We will promote our sponsors with their names/logos on our t-shirts, flyers and promotional material, banner, and announce their names throughout the event.
