About the event

On January 15th, 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded as an organization for and by collegiate women. Since its inception the organization has embodied the ideals of service - uplifting the social, economic, and scholastic endeavors of women worldwide. Lambda Chapter has perpetuated these same ideals in the New York City community since April 22, 1922, through a host of progressive and innovative service initiatives. One of our most notable, “A Pink Carpet Affair,” is an annual fashion show to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Alzheimer's Association.

On January 31, 2015, Lambda Chapter will be hosting her 7th Annual Fashion Show. In previous years, the show attracted over 400 attendees to the Great Hall of the City University of New York-City College. Our show was truly a community effort, featuring students from seven New York City colleges and received public recognition and coverage by AMMO, a leading fashion magazine and blog, as well as Way Fashion Magazine. In both its past and present the show has also featured several celebrities as hosts as well as models, including radio personality Shelley Wade of Z100 and designer Angela Simmons, to name a few.

An event of this magnitude would not be possible without continued community support. We are asking you to join in our efforts of raising awareness for breast cancer; a portion of the proceeds from the show will be donated to the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Alzheimer's Association. . We hope that you will stand beside us in the effort to raise funds for this worthy cause.
