About the event

My name is Brooke, I am a junior Nursing student at the University of Rhode Island. I want to advance my knowledge and experiences this summer by traveling abroad. I will be able to volunteer in places that need help and resources; all the while learning new methods, seeing specific diseases and changing lives. I hope to help others and share with them what I have learned in my studies and also see how life is in another country. With the help form sponsors, I can make this dream possible and spread knowledge and care to those in need! through this organization, I will be given the opportunity to work in Arequipa, Peru which is the city center of the Arequipa region, filled with historic sites and beautiful volcanoes. The hospital where I will be volunteering features many skilled doctors and nurses that will teach and demonstrate their medical expertise, while allowing me to practice my own skills and provide help. The medical center also boasts the largest oncology division in southern Peru. I have wanted to be a Oncology Nurse for as long as I can remember, so when I saw this offered in Peru, I knew this was the place for me. I want to be able to provide care, affection and true support that may just make the hardships of cancer a little bit easier. Overall, any financial help that I receive is highly regarded and extremely helpful. It would mean so much for me to be able to travel and help others while doing it, gaining lifelong skills and undergoing life changing experiences.
