About the event

Join us on International Women's Day as we celebrate front line workers in the Violence against Women sector that have dedicated their lives to advocating and making change in our community. 

Soul of a Warrior:The WomanACT Soul of a Warrior is awarded to an exceptional front line workerin the Violence against Women sector in the GTA. Recipients play an importantrole supporting women and children who have experienced violence.  Rolesthat vary from intake worker, to counsellor, to children’s advocate, to familysupport worker, to legal support worker and beyond.  On any given day,these roles require thoughtfulness, compassion, and dedication in order toprovide the support and resources necessary.  

On International Women's Day, March 8th, 2016, we will honour the work of remarkable women and raise essential funds for the Woman Abuse Council of Toronto. The "WomanACT Soul of a Warrior" Awards is The Woman Abuse Council of Toronto's first and only fundraising event. 

WomanACT provides coordination support to agencies providing services in the city of Toronto, as a coordinating body, the Council:

• identifies gaps in service
• supports and facilitates policy development and pilot projects
• and undertakes research and actions that promote institutional and system change. 

In 2015 we awarded WomanACT's first Soul of a Warrior Award to Kristina Jensen from Ernestine's Women Shelter at our annual 2-day training conference, Supporting Survivors by Supporting Staff. You can read more about the first recipient on our website: http://www.womanabuse.ca/news-events/show.cfm?id=161
