Whispery Savoury is an experimental interaction between senses and eating. It is offering a multisensory dining experience through the stimulation of jointed senses - taste and hearing - that are normally experienced separately, by letting the audience play sound and music with specially designed tableware (one for each taste - sweetness, sourness, bitterness, saltiness, and umami) when eating and drinking.
The project aims at providing additional evidence of shared underlying properties between the auditory and gustatory modalities, and exploring the factors influencing our cravings and appetite apart from food itself to assist people to gain the maximal pleasure from eating. Also, accentuating each of the five basic tastes, we are expecting to help bring back some semblance of taste for those unfortunate individuals who have lost the ability to taste completely (a condition that is known as ageusia).
More, looking at notions of the multisensory science of food and dining, this project also aims to address the role of art and science in the contemporary story of gastronomy.
