About the event

The Vancouver International Film Festival produces screenings, talks and events as a catalyst for a diverse community to discover, discuss and share the creativity and craft of storytelling on screen.
 

In 2018, VIFF will screen more than 200 features and 100 shorts in a showcase of exceptional films from around the world. In addition to being home to one of the world’s largest showcases of contemporary Canadian cinema, VIFF also offers extensive documentary programming and takes great pride in championing international cinema's most exciting new voices. Our long-standing Dragons & Tigers film series has helped launch some of Asia's top talent and we’ve routinely identified some of the boldest emerging filmmakers in independent cinema. Bong Joon Ho (Okja), Maren Ade (Toni Erdmann) and Miguel Gomes (Arabian Nights) are but a few of the now-renowned filmmakers who attended VIFF early in their careers. Furthermore, we’ll once again expand the frame to include talks, workshops, performances and other unique Films+ events that celebrate innovations in film, television and digital media.

Founded in 1982, The Greater Vancouver International Film Festival Society is a not-for-profit cultural organization that operates the internationally acclaimed Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) and the year-round programming of the Vancity Theatre at the Vancouver International Film Centre.
