Tharuna Youth Group (TYG) is the youth branch of The Sinhalese Cultural Forum of NSW Inc. Established in 2002, it is one of the most dynamic community youth organisations in NSW. We are actively engaged in promoting Sri Lankan culture in the multi-cultural society of Australia. As such, TYG is currently the largest Sri Lankan youth group in Australia, with over 300 registered members and 80 active members ranging from the ages of 16-25.
We focus our research towards small charities where TYG can make the largest impact. Our 2015 Australian Charity of choice is once again Cerebral Palsy Alliance Australia. Cere- bral Palsy Alliance is a unique organisation working locally to deliver life changing therapy and support services for children, adults and families today. As well as working nationally CPA operates internationally to drive the push for greater research into the causes and a cure for cerebral palsy.
Providing support services that span the lifetime of a person with cerebral palsy, all our work aims to help people with cerebral palsy to achieve independence and live as full a life as possible. TYG hopes to help them achieve their goals through our fundraising.
TYG’s second charity for 2015 is once again the Cerebral Palsy Foundation “The Dream Foundation”. In Sri Lanka, there are an estimated number of 40,000 children and adults with Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation (CPLF) is the first organisation for children with Cerebral Palsy in Sri Lanka.
