  • About the event

All proceeds raised during this event will directly support Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois, Girl Scouts like Ella who earned her Girl Scout Gold Award by creating a project to address the issue of voter apathy among young adults, ages 18 -29, and high school students soon to be of voting age. “Ella’s team used a variety of mediums to provide information in a straightforward, easily understandable way.  Readers could learn about the role of local government positions, their significance, and options for registering to vote via a website and Instagram page (Vote Barrington), videos, posters, flyers, and email.  Ella had 743 visitors to her website and 86 followers on Instagram – making it more likely for her target audience to have voted then and in the future.  The league of Women Voters has agreed to maintain the website and Instagram page.

That is the story of one Girl Scout - imagine what thousands of Girl Scouts could do to improve their communities, the possibilities are endless! However, we know many families are struggling and must make difficult decisions to make ends meet. At GSNI, we want all girls to have the opportunity to be Girl Scouts regardless of their socio-economic barriers, and that is why we provide financial assistance for ALL aspects of Girl Scouting. From membership dues to uniforms and books to international travel, we do all we can to ensure all Girl Scouts get the experience THEY want.

With your donation, we are confident we will realize our goal of raising $10,000 to serve our 15,000+ girls and their families with our financial assistance program. You hold the key to whether every girl in your community can fully participate in Girl Scouts without financial barriers.

Thank you so much for your consideration!

    Why should you sponsor?

We hear it often:  There is a shortage of prospective employees with the skills we need.  Young people today just don’t have the same work ethic as previous generations.  Where are we going to find the talent needed for our future workforce?  Our answer:  Girl Scouts!

Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is part of the Girl Scouts of the USA STEM Initiative to bring 2.5 million girls into the STEM pipeline by 2025.  We offer 90+ badges girls can earn on STEM topics, all of which are progressive, developing skills in stages with simple concepts for elementary school school-aged to more complex concepts and skills for middle and high school-age girls.  Topics vary widely, giving girls the opportunity to fully explore their interests.  STEM badges in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Cyber Security, and Space Science are just a few examples.  STEM programming goes beyond badges to include hands-on learning experiences offered by our preferred partners, who provide programs that follow the Girl Scout Leadership Experience process.

Why is this important to you?  When girls have fun in STEM the foundation is set for further exploration.  Many of our members have said these experiences led them to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Not all girls have access to traditional, volunteer-led Girl Scout troops, due to financial constraints, a lack of available adult volunteer leaders, or no transportation to get to and from troop meetings.  To meet the need of girls in this situation, GSNI offers a low or no-cost outreach program with staff-led troops that meet at schools, community centers, and other sites where girls already are, so any girl who wants to be a Girl Scout has the opportunity to fully participate in the program.

There is so much for girls to explore within our four focus areas of Practical Life Skills, Outdoor Activities & Adventures, Travel & Global Community, and Career & Interest Exploration, along with Leadership Development and Community Service.

Girls who participate in Girl Scouts benefit in five important ways.  They develop a strong sense of self and positive values, seek challenges, learn to develop, and maintain healthy relationships, and learn to identify issues in the community and create action plans to solve them.  What this all adds up to are girls who grow into adults who are confident, independent, self-sufficient, capable women, who make a positive impact in their communities.  No doubt Girl Scouts and Girl Scout alums make great employees, businesswomen, and community leaders!

Whether it’s a boardroom or an operating room, a town hall, or the Oval Office, girls need to grow up with the courage, confidence, and character it takes to lead.  When you get involved in a girl’s life, there’s no telling how far she can go.  Be There So She Can Be Here.
