Theatre Production, New Writing, 'Listen',

Leeds, England, United Kingdom Leeds, England, United Kingdom

  • About the event

Ponder Theatre is a small, new theatre company in Leeds with big ambitions.

Our team is a group of students and graduates of Leeds University. We are taking a piece of new writing called 'Listen, You Can Hear the Sound of No Hands Clapping' to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August.

‘Listen’ is a thought-provoking, avant-garde exploration of the self through the epic, Paradise Lost. A director and an artist revive historical figures such as Christopher Marlowe (the Elizabethan playwright), Catherine Parr (the Tudor Queen), Homer (the ancient poet) and Yuval Noah Harari (the contemporary award-winning author of Sapiens and Homo Deus) in their theatrical production.

We are self-funding this production and are determined to make it a success - to make a splash at the Edinburgh Fringe. Please help us get there.

    Why should you sponsor?

Ponder Theatre is a small, new theatre company founded in Leeds, in 2018, Ponder Theatre is just taking its first fearless steps.

We are a collaborative, visionary production company that creates theatre that makes you think. ‘Good’ theatre encourages you ask questions, and that is what we aim to do.

Ponder Theatre, in collaboration with LS6 Theatre will be performing at Edinburgh Fringe 2019. Our resident director and playwright, Melanie Noa Jehan, will directing her own play, ‘Listen, You Can Hear the Sound of No Hands Clapping’ at the summer festival. With a strong team by her side, we will be exploring what happens when you bring era-defining characters back to life.

We will ask you to suspend your disbelief in this one-hour avant-garde production.

    Does reality remain outside language?

Explore well-known works of literature through a new set of eyes as the characters set out to explore who they become when they take part in a performative adaptation of Milton's 'Paradise Lost'.

Join them on this journey: take a bite from the Fruit of That Forbidden Tree.
