Wallflower Theatrical are bringing the 'The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan' to London in September 2016. Wallflower is a new production company based in London, we bring to life the script in a fresh, new way. We want the audience to feel like they are part of an emotional journey and not just watching it. We are breaking away from the traditional fourth wall and bringing the audience into the character's lives.
The project wallflower theatrical are producing for this summer is 'The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan' The show is a psychoanalysis of J.M Barrie's Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn't grow up. An exploration of the realities of adulthood and the pressure on masculinity. The play explores the darker subtexts of the fairytale.
We want the acting, set and sound to surround the audience and not just be performed in front of them. The show is going to have moments of pure simple beauty and a contrast of big spectacles. The production is going to be performed in a studio, black box theatre. We do not want the venue to be like a traditional theatre but more like an unconventional space. The majority of the creative team are going to be students or recent graduates to give them a professional credit to put on their CV and to kick start their career in the theatre industry.
As the show is based on such a well known story we have a particularly wide target audience. The story carries some dark themes which probably means it isn't something children would want to see, however, 16 year olds onwards will really enjoy the production. As the show is not going to be in a traditional theatre venue the audience will most probably be regular theatre goers who see a lot of fringe and off West End performances.
Wallflower is dedicated to creating opportunities for unrepresented individuals in society today - including BAMER, LGBTQ+ and underprivileged individuals. This is very important to us and something seriously lacking the Arts today.
We aim to give unrepresented individuals a platform and a space to get involved in theatre and become representatives for others like them; to pave the way. We want theatre to be unique and representative, so people alike can continue to be inspired and motivated, no longer feeling discouraged.
