About the event

Locs don't take up the same amount of space as the loose curl movement, but they can. Locs come with their own set of stigmas and misconceptions.

While we never want to downplay the spiritual and social reasons for locs, we also want to celebrate the everyday loc'd person. The everyday teachers, doctors, lawyers, event planners, metro bus drivers, yoga teachers, IT techs, DJs, bartenders, sports players, and politicians - who also happen to have locs.

Regardless of loc size, method, or style, each of these individuals are experiencing a journey worth honoring amid fellowship and fun with those who get it.

Dominique Cheek - also known as "Cheek" on Social Media - is a loc influencer and enthusiasts. An event planner by trade, she came up with The Loc Link-Up after attending a "Natural Hair Event" where locs were underepresented. She strives to pu locs on the forefront of a celebration, and one day expand the movement to hair discrimination reform aligned with The Crown Act.
