The Cycle of Giving,

James Drysdale Reserve, Bunya, Queensland, Australia James Drysdale Reserve, Bunya, Queensland, Australia

  • About the event

The Cycle of Giving is an annual one-day cycling
event which raises vital funds for organ
    transplant research.

Over 700 riders will participate in 100km, 60km or
25km rides, assisted by volunteers who will help
them through their cycling journey, before
crossing the finish line to a crowd of cheering
    supporters and celebrations of their
    achievement.

These riders are inspired by cycling alongside
organ transplant recipients, as well as their
families and friends. These recipients’ lives were
saved at The Prince Charles Hospital with the aid
    of medical research funded by
    The Common Good.

Riders who participate and fundraise in the Cycle
of Giving will be contributing directly towards
    sustaining this crucial medical research.

    Why should you sponsor?

The Cycle of Giving raises funds to
    support a number of life-changing
medical research projects at The Prince
Charles Hospital. With your support, we
can continue to fund these projects and
    retain world-class researchers right here
    in Brisbane.

Dr Brendan O’Sullivan is just one of many
researchers at The Prince Charles Hospital,
and he is on an expedition. His mission: To
map the cell types that make up our lungs.
“The problem at the moment is no-one
knows what the different cell types are
within the lung. It can make it difficult for
    physicians to diagnose lung transplant
rejections when the different cell types and
their functions are not fully understood,” Dr
    O’Sullivan said.

Using equipment funded by The Common
Good, Dr O'Sullivan is able to observe a
detailed analysis of specific, individual cell
data to identify which cells play a role in the
    lung transplant rejection process.
The reality is that research funding is not
    an infinite resource and without
    continued funding, research projects like
    this will cease to exist.
It's up to us as a community to support
researchers like Dr O'Sullivan so that one
day someone we know and love - perhaps
    even you- could be saved.
