About the event
Geared towards librarians, archivists, and library staff at academic libraries, The Collective brings together next-generation practitioners who wish to learn from and collaborate with one another.
The event is a hybrid of the best of what conferences and “unconferences” have to offer, The Collective limits event overlap and emphasizes thoughtful, in-depth discussion and workshops over lecture-style presentations.
It was born out of frustration with the lack of tangible skills and takeaways at many conferences, The Collective is designed as a low-cost, high-impact gathering to encourage collaboration and sharing among practicing librarians creating innovative work.

Now in its fourth year, The Collective is regularly praised by library professionals and has quickly become the go-to conference for librarians interested in defining the future of libraries. As a newly-minted 501(c)(3) organization with tax-exempt status, we’re excited to continue to innovate and reinvent low-cost professional development for librarians.

Ashley Maynor is an award-winning filmmaker, librarian, and scholar who uses technology to tell compelling stories. Her work in grief archives includes the interactive web documentary, The Story of the Stuff (thestoryofthestuff.com).
Corey Halaychik is the Head of Acquisitions and Continuing Resources at the University of Tennessee Libraries. I work to make libraries more efficient, saving time and money for institutions and the people they serve.
