  • About the event

    Theme - EMPATHY

    PROGRAM

    Talks

    Professor Claus Lamm, biological psychologist

Empathy is a crucial social skill that allows us to connect to and understand others and their emotions. In my talk, I will highlight recent findings regarding its neural mechanisms, focusing on research in humans but also in rats, ravens, and dogs.

Doctor Christopher Frauenberger, interaction design researcher

Studying people's experiences with technology largely depends on our empathic understanding. However, for user groups with which we have less overlap in terms of lifeworlds, these presumed empathic understandings become unfounded presumptions. I speak about our work with autistic children and how we designed and evaluated technologies with them, that were meaningful to them on their own terms. While I am not arguing against empathy, I would like to argue for increased participation and empowerment in creating technologies and doing science more generally.

    Networking

Welcome to Vienna’s first neuroscience meet-up, where science meets everyday life, academy meets industry, biology meets artificial intelligence. We would like to create a platform, where curious people, students, academics, and professionals get together for one reason: Our fascination of the most complex machine ever existed – the human brain.

Join us if you wish to explore something you always wanted to know, but you were too shy to ask; or if you want to showcase your research, and widen your horizon to see your work with new eyes.

We wish to bring a more interdisciplinary view of Neuroscience, connecting the field of psychology, neuroscience, computational technology, and pharma. Researchers will present their most recent discoveries and we will discuss the most exciting developments by reviewing interesting scientific articles.

    Why should you sponsor?

BrainStorms is organising a series of monthly events around Neuroscience and Technologies. This month, the topic is ‘empathy’ and the two speakers are Claus Lamm (neuroscientist) and Christopher Frauenberger (interaction design researcher).

    Why join us?

    • This is the first Neuroscience meetup in Vienna, organized by 2 Ph.D. candidates
    • Brainstorms will put you on the guestlist for free
    • Meet corporates, startups, and scientists from different fields
    • Foster relationships between Life Sciences and Technology
