About the event

The Green Caravan Film Festival is one of the leading annual international festivals dedicated to environmentally and socially themed films. In its five years this exciting and successful festival, well established in the Middle East, has attracted award winning and compelling films. The GCFF has an increasingly diverse audience base and broad media reach. After four successful years in Kuwait and Dubai the GCFF is coming to London, hosting its first ever European edition of the festival to raise awareness and generate interest in advance of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21). It will also be featuring film content which reflects the social and cultural issues related to environmental problems including war, poverty, inequality, and migration. 

Since its establishment in 2009, the GCFF has partnered with organisations passionate about social and environmental progress, including the United Nations Development Programme, UN-Habitat, 350.org, Planet in Focus, K’s-Path and progressive businesses working to solve environmental challenges. Our goals have focused on raising awareness about the impact of fossil fuels on the environment, the need to protect precious natural resources, celebrating art, promoting culture and encouraging youth engagement. This is a critical year to engage the public and galvanise support for the fight against climate change; film plays a unique role in reaching diverse audiences, transcending language and cultural barriers, speaking truths that policy makers, influencers and traditional media outlets struggle to convey. 

This year’s programming

Our traditional programming showcases the best in eco-cinema, and this year we are expanding our film selection to include films that highlight the real world impacts of Climate Change as well as those that reflect related social issues which are intrinsically tied to environmental and ecological challenges. This year the GCCF will also include a competition section for short films made by filmmakers from the Middle East.

Due to our region’s heavy dependence on fossil fuels, a major contributor to climate change, we feel a special responsibility to raise our voices in calling for just solutions to the global environmental crises we are facing.

This year, the festival will be expanded encouraging the participation of a broader range of filmmakers, producers, activists, academics and industry professionals.
