  • About the event

    The Suffolk Skills Show is the largest employer-led skills and careers event in the area.  It is expected to feature over 100 exhibitors and more than 4000 visitors are expected in 2015, following the success of the 2014 event. 

    The Show offers young people, and those within their sphere of influence,  the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at a range of work related skills, speak to employers from all over Suffolk, many with global operations. It will offer the chance to look at specific careers, talk to people already doing the jobs, and gain understand of the routes in to employment or further education.

    For employers the show provides a unique opportunity to showcase their businesses and industry to a large number of local young people, meeting and shaping the employees of the future.  


    In Suffolk we have some fantastic opportunities for employment across a range of burgeoning industry sectors. By bringing together employers, schools, colleges and training providers, Suffolk Skills Show offers the chance for young people to work out which careers are of interest to them and match their strengths, then find out the best route to get the right skills for the job. Schools and colleges are invited to bring groups of students to the event for free and can claim a subsidy towards transport if eligible. Individuals are also invited to ‘drop-in’ throughout the day, no need to pre-register, but may wish to do so in order to be informed of how to download the event APP when it becomes available in September.

    Ian Twinley, CEO of John Grose, and Chairman of the Suffolk Skills Show Steering Committee for 2014 and 2015 said:

     “The first skills show in 2014 showcasing a huge number of local Suffolk Businesses and education providers was a huge success and enjoyed by over 3,500 young people. This year we aim to make the event even more engaging with further content that will help young people with their career planning.”

    For employers the Show enables them to actively influence the understanding of young people and work with education providers about the kind of workforce skills needed and help them make the right choices early on. In addition it increases awareness of the sectors and contributes to improving employment prospects and availability and retention of the right calibre of recruits in Suffolk.

    CEO of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, John Dugmore, added:

    "The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce was very pleased to support the first Suffolk Skills Show in 2014, which was a huge success. We believe that investment in our future workforce is imperative for greater busienss success in the couty, and therefore we are delighted to once again be partnering the event in 2015. We urge all businesses in Suffolk to get involved and to come along and showcase their organisations to influence and help shape the skills choices and opportuities available to young people in our County."

    A small contribution cost is payable for exhibiting starting at £250.00+VAT, which will include a listing on the Suffolk Skills Show website, and a listing on the free event APP, which will be available to all from September. Employers will also be invited to list details of their organisation under the new ICanBeA website for free. This will be available to all education establishments to use in conjunction with careers guidance and advice offered by them.
