STATE of Maryland Literacy Conference,

About the event

I am Sandy Keaton and proud to be the State of Maryland Literacy Association annual  conference chair. This year’s theme is “Bridging Young  Readers to Forever Readers”.  We will be returning to an in-person event on April 3-5, 2024. As an affiliate of International Literacy Association, we are looking forward to creating learning experience where we can connect and reunite with educators looking to expand their knowledge. I always believed in life-long learning, and searching for a personalized, professional learning experience that aligns my instructional practices with the latest research in literacy instruction.

During our multi-day 2024 conference, we will offer high quality professional learning experiences that will assist with staff growth and improve student outcomes from experienced researchers and practitioners. Sandy Keaton

I have been in education for over 40 years. I work with students with learning difficulties and striving readers and writers.  I find it important to identify the needs for students and work closely with all stakeholders to help students see their daily successes.  Livelong learning is an important concept that I believe in, and I want all students to feel excited and enjoy the ability to read and write.  I am a grandmother of two and see them as my future and want the best for them, so I often attend conferences and view webinars so that I can stay current with new learning, concepts, and strategies.  This is one of the reasons why I agreed to chair this year's conference so I can bring information to educators in Maryland.
