About the event

Something Wild Film Festival is a 501(c 3 non-profit film festival, that's overall goal is to celebrate the art of film over the course of 4 days in Durango, Co. For our first year we plan on showing films at least two venues and having a variety of panels that will occur throughout different venues in the downtown area of Durango, Co. 

As the name of the festival implies, we our developing a program that will be uniquely different from other film festivals. We plan on showing current North American independent works, international works, find films that might be deemed "forgotten" or "lost" for our audience to discover, and finally showcase a region, time period, theme, and/or an up and coming director's works.

With our panels, we aim to secure different size venues from places that can hold a 100 people to micro panels in venues that can only hold 20 people. The idea being that certain panels that we might believe will be popular can seat everyone, while other panels that we believe our important but more focus and/or niche will be more exciting for those attending in a smaller environment. 

For our educational outreach part of the festival, we will contact local high schools (with in 60 miles) to invite students with a strong interest in filmmaking to the festival where they will have guarantee entry to films and  access to small group discussions after the film with filmmakers that attend.  

Since this our first year we plan to keep it simple but are looking to have an opening night dinner for our patrons attending the festival, a cocktail hour each night for filmmakers and premiere pass holders, and finally a closing night party after the last film is played for patrons. 

 Some of the other unique aspects of this festival is that we want to be more then just a long weekend event. We plan on being a constant presence in the community, with a monthly screening of films that typically do not make it to this region of the U.S.

Why should you sponsor?

You should Sponsor Something WIld Film Festival as we are new event that plans to be more then a singular yearly event but also plan on having monthly one off events that would allow your brand to have year round presence in Durango, Co. and the four corners region. As a start-up nonprofit group, not only are we a tax write off but we are more flexiable to work with you on creating the best exposure of your brand to our audience. We have not created a portocol, nor do we have a history with companies even within our local community. 

Within the sponsor section we have presented three examples of the types of sponsorships we offer but we have others that fit in between the three and are willing to listen to higher sponsorship deals.

Derrick Casto

Derrick Casto has worked over 40 film festivals over the past eight years doing everything from checking tickets, to being a program director (Durango Independent FIlm Festival). He has worked small festivals to some of the larger festivals (Sundance, Telluride Film Fest) and has an understanding of how culturally relevant film festivals. 

In its' first year and with a very limited volunteer staff the goal is simple; Have a single successful four day festival showing 24 to 28 film programs on t least theatre two screens at seperate venues, host 3 to 6 panels over the course of four days at diffenrent location located throughout the town, and bring a director, actor, or a person involved in the field of filmmaking to honor without going into debt.

Therefore in its' first year the goal is to raise 20,000 in contributations and a variety of in kind donations, to excute this successfully. With the right funding, the festival will be a very attartive regional event for people to want to attend.
