About the event
The Annual Benefit Gala is an integral part of our organization's development efforts. We are partnered with Set Her Free, an organization based in Kampala, Uganda that provides training and resources to women and girls to help them gain financial independence.
This event is a key opportunity to expand membership, participation, and awareness of the Tailoring Center as well as the other great work Set Her Free is doing.
The 2016 Benefit Gala will be held at the City View Room at The George Washington University on November 4th, 2016. It will start with a reception at 6:30 PM, followed by speakers and entertainment starting at 7:00 PM. This year we will host Robin Nestler (co-founder of Set Her Free) and Victor Roy (co-founder of GlobeMed) as speakers.The Gala will include entertainment from local African dance groups who will share with us the culture of their homeland as well as emphasize the importance of preserving these traditions.

In the past 12 months alone, Set Her Free has expanded to include the teaching of trades in its main trade school, the employment of graduates in Set Her Free’s in-shop tailoring center (which we sponsor), and support for a group of students to continue their education in secondary school. All proceeds raised from the Gala will go directly to supporting our efforts in Uganda to help the young girls in Set Her Free get the second chance they deserve.
