    What is ‘Run the River’?

     

    Entering its fourth year, ‘Run the River’ is our flagship sporting event in which over 3,000 runners take part in a 10k run along the River Thames. Targeted at our teaching community and runners from over 700 organisations, the event is scheduled for a weekday evening and typically sells out weeks in advance.

     

    What is the cause?

     

    In 2014, the event raised over £130,000 for our Futures programme — a scheme that supports pupils from low-income backgrounds to access the best universities and careers. Equal access to higher education is at the heart of a fair society and is central to the Teach First mission. Today, young people from the poorest homes are still seven times less likely to attend the most selective universities than their wealthier peers and Futures ensures young people are able to realise their potential. With our support, a total of 80% of Futures pupils progressed to Higher Education compared to just 17% of pupils from low-income backgrounds nationally. Over 60% of Futures pupils who interviewed at Oxbridge received an offer, outperforming the average of 25% of all interviewees.

     

    How can you be involved?

     

    Our aim for 2015 is to enrol 900 pupils onto Teach First Futures. The programme is run primarily on voluntary donations and so we’re enlisting the help of three new sponsors to make Run the River 2015 bigger and better than ever. We know that demand for places is high with 80% of the 3,000 runners already planning to run with us again in 2015 and we know this is a captive audience for our potential partners. We’d like to select a hospitality partner, a merchandise partner and an entertainment partner who can benefit from the high profile brand positioning as well as enhance the experience for the runners. These co-branded marketing opportunities will include: tube advertising in over 25 high-footfall stations, digital campaigns reaching our online community of 38,000 followers and on-the-day merchandise and collateral.
