About the event
The Run As One Campaign, is a nationwide event in honor of Marine Corps Veteran Corporal Clay Hunt. Clay was an infantryman who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with great honor and distinction both on and off the battlefield. During his tours, Clay's unit sustained heavy urban combat and not only did he witness the deaths of his fellow Marines up close, he was also struck by an enemy sniper round.
Upon returning home from his final deployment, Clay entered into a new battlefield, only this time the enemy lied within himself. He sought refuge in continuing his service by advocating for numerous Veteran's Outreach Programs such as Team Rubicon and Ride2Recovery. He also became a prominent voice in combatting post-traumatic stress disorder and Veteran's rights. As a strong leader of Marines, Clay selflessly put the needs of others ahead of his and his actions exemplify the true definition of service. After a hard fought battle with survivor's guilt and PTSD, Clay tragically took his own life on March 31st, 2011 after numerous unsuccessful attempts to receive the treatment he needed.
Anytime Fitness is honored to continue his mission of raising awareness of PTSD and educating the public of the 22 Veterans that commit suicide EVERY SINGLE DAY. You do not have to be a service member to serve alongside of our Veterans. Please come out and show your support! Show them that they are not alone when they return from the battlefield. We will conduct a 5k/10k run or grab your ruck sack and hike it out with us to Veteran's Plaza in Teague Park to honor these men and women who continue to write a blank check for our freedom! This event will end with a BBQ and gathering... additional details are soon to follow for the ending event!
All proceeds will be donated to Longview's brand new Veteran's Plaza at Teague Park in an effort to chip away at the remaining $175,000 needed to inscribe the names of the 58,307 service members who were killed in Vietnam.
