About the event

Model UN is a simulation of the United Nations proceedings, with students playing the
role of representatives of different countries in a variety of the UN’s organs such as the
General Assembly, Security Council etc. The purpose of a Model UN is for students to
achieve a greater understanding not only of the UN, but also of global issues, through
an interactive and enjoyable educational experience. It is an attempt to engage students
with global challenges, and encourage them to think creatively with an international
outlook to problem-solving, that attracts many of the brightest minds in the country.
Current UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon himself was once a MUNer.
Rotaract Model United Nations was initially started in 2009 and is a four day conference
that takes place where debaters are encouraged to exercise diplomacy & patience,
learn the art of listening and gain valuable experience in oration. Unfortunately,
ROTMUN 2012 was the final ROTMUN before this conference and it hosted an
incredible 1300 delegates over 4 days at the Carlton Hotel.
This year we invite you to witness the revival of the dream of ROTMUN
once again with a new age vision and a mission to bring together experienced MUN
diplomats from across Karachi with those starting their public speaking journey to
enhance the quality of debate in Pakistan. Our aim is to stand apart in this day and age
of public speaking with inculcating knowledge of diplomacy and understanding world
issues with the depth and sensitivity that they deserve. For us the conference,
ROTMUN is about ‘interacting and connecting with people’ from different social and
educational backgrounds, something that the delegates are not used to in their daily
lives.
We are expecting 700 participants at ROTMUN ‘16 from prestigious colleges and
universities from all over Karachi. Our venue for this year will be Pearl Continental
Hotel. Our conference structure includes a Secretary General, an Academic Curator
and Under-Secretary Generals, with committees under the guidance of a Director
General, handling Finance, Public Relations, Marketing, Logistics and Communications.

ROTMUN itself is a nonprofit event and we aim to raise enough money to further pass on the benefit to different charities and medical care setups under DOW University. As such it might encourage your organization to help us in this endeavor as it is a part of your corporate social responsibility(CSR) as well. Together we aim to make use of all funds efficiently and make this an initiative that benefits our society in more than one aspect.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Rotary Foundation helps fund our humanitarian activities, from local service projects to global initiatives. Your club or district can apply for grants from the Foundation to invest in projects and provide scholarships. The Foundation also leads the charge on worldwide Rotary campaigns such as eradicating polio and promoting peace. Rotarians and friends of Rotary support the Foundation’s work through voluntary contributions.

 

Rotaract is a club for adults ages 18-30 that meets twice a month to exchange ideas, plan activities and projects, and socialize. While Rotary clubs serve as sponsors, Rotaract clubs decide how to organize and run their club and what projects and activities to carry out.

 

Rotaract Club of DOW and SZABIST, as a part of its endeavor of providing holistic cocurricular
activities, plans to host a Model United Nations Conference from the 22nd to
25th September 2016, for which, as always, sponsorship is a requirement.
