Roosevelt Run 5 K,

Boston, Massachusetts, United States Boston, Massachusetts, United States

  • About the event

My name is Amie Luna and I am the parent our children who attend the Franklin D. Roosevelt K-8 School in the Hyde Park section of Boston. The Roosevelt School is a Boston public, full inclusion school with a racially and academically diverse student population whose ages range from 3-13 years old.  Our school’s mission is to develop academic excellence and exemplify a community of scholars.  The school community truly values the individuality of each child and strives to empower every student with critical and creative thinking skills.

As we all know, learning doesn’t happen through books alone– it happens every day through the experiences we have - the places we go and the new exciting things we encounter.  It also includes our exposure to the arts, technology and athletics. With each new and varied experience we are able to provide to our students, they develop into more well-rounded children and are more successful in school.

With district wide budget cuts, many of this resource needs fall solely on families to provide, yet not all families have this capability.  A recent report on school demographics reveals that approximately 40% of our school population is considered economically disadvantaged, 18% are English language learners, and 25% of our students have special needs. We need to guarantee that all children are given the same opportunities by ensuring access to technology, arts, athletics and field trips through their school experience.  In order to do that, we MUST fundraise.

This year one of the major fundraiser that we are hosting is a Roosevelt School Community 5 K run.  The 5K Run will be held on Sunday May 5th in Hyde Park.  The run will be open to all school and community members of all ages who will join us for a morning or moving and fun. Our goal is to raise money for our Roosevelt School that will allow all students access to our enrichment activities throughout the year.  We are currently gathering donations for the 2018-2019 school year.  It would be greatly appreciated if your company would consider making a donation towards our school and the enrichment activities provided throughout the year.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.  For recognition in advertisements and event materials, donations may be sent to the attention of Bannet Steele, principal, Franklin D. Roosevelt School 95 Needham Road, Hyde Park, MA 02136

Donations are tax-deductible; our tax id (503c) is 82-3700609.  With your help, I am sure our school will allow us to ensure our students have access to many new experiences.

    Sincerely,

    Amie Luna
