About the event
Rock the Blocks is a multi-genre music & arts festival that takes place across multiple venues in downtown Blacksburg, VA, steps from the Virginia Tech campus. Beginning on Friday evening, dozens of bands and thousands of attendees crowd into local bars, restaurants & galleries to share in live music experiences. The fun continues until 2am on Saturday night.
Rock the Blocks unites the community through unique events that support up-and-coming artists and encourage the sharing of ideas, culture & creativity.

Yvonne YeeI am a Virginia Tech alumni. I graduated in 2012 with a degree in Business Management (Entrepreneurship). The idea for this festival began in 2010, a few years after the traumatic shooting that changed this big campus/small town's history forever. We saw 3 main issues that we wanted to address: 1- A gloomy shadow cast over all of the wonderful people and things happening on campus and downtown, with all major press outlets focusing only on the tragic incident; 2 - A lack of real music venues for local artists to play; 3 - The enduring power of music as a healing force, which needed a platform in this town. So we set out to organize one event that could bring the students, artists, locals and local businesses together. We decided to ROCK THE BLOCKS with music and art.
