Roaring 40's Role Model Charity Dinner,

ROLE Foundation, Bali, Indonesia ROLE Foundation, Bali, Indonesia

  • About the event

The Bali WISE program targets young women between the ages of 17 to 25 years old from financially challenged families, who can not afford a college education. These women are sorely in need of vocational skills, training and job opportunities. Between Bali WISE and it’s education partners, students are trained with the aim to gain sustainable employment with a credible employer. The bali WISE program also strives to improve the self-confidence necessary to seek higher education , needed in today’s world to become a professional or to start a business of their own.

On the night of the event, you will be greeted, served and entertained by the Bali WISE students, while we honor our 2017 graduates who have been trained by our Hotel Partners. Additionally, this event is also to raise fund in order to continue our work in empowering women.

    Why should you sponsor?

As a result of decades as a tourism destination and participation in wider global markets, Bali has developed a distinctive international reputation. The explosion of tourism has generated great economic growth. However, despite the high levels of regional and international investment in Bali’s tourism sector, many of its residents are not beneficiaries of this development. Women are particularly disadvantaged.

Data from the Bali Statistics Bureau (BPS Provinci Bali) indicate a gender bias in education and income. Bali’s population of 4,125,800 is nearly equally divided between men and women. Education in Indonesia is compulsory for 9 years, or until the equivalent of junior high school. However, while boys meet this requirement and attend for 9.18 years, girls attend for only 7.33 years. This is largely due to the fact that poor families prioritize education for male children. In the relatively affluent Regency of Denpasar, the literacy rate of men is 99.31% while that of women is 96.56%. In the much less affluent Regency of Karangasem, which is prioritized by the BaliWISE program for recruiting, the literacy rate of men is 88.71% while that of women is only 76.53%

In terms of economic development and earnings, women make up 45.46% of the labor force, but women’s earnings make up only 36.39% of the total. This would indicate that women are paid less than men or that a few number of women work in higher level or management positions.

It has been demonstrated that once girls and young women have no option and enter the unskilled labor pool, they are trapped in the well- known downward spiral of poverty with little chance of advancement.

By taking part in this event you are supporting BaliWISE to reach its objectives ;To empower poor, marginalized, and at-risk girls and young women through increasing their access to skilled employment . The Bali WISE program targets young women between the ages of 17 to 25 years old from financially challenged families, who can not afford a college education. These women are sorely in need  of vocational skills, training and job opportunities

Role Foundation, through its BaliWISE program, continues to address barriers to skilled employment for women by providing basic education and vocational training to poor and marginalized women on a scholarship basis. The tourism sector is selected for vocational training due to the importance of the industry in Bali.

Throught its 6 months hospitality training program, Bali WISE helps more than 110 women to have better education and find quality employement. Bali WISE also provide the beneficiaries with education, dormitory, uniform, books, 3x meal and 70$-90$ monthly allowance.
