  • About the event

Rio in Dalston is an unofficial 17-day celebration running alongside the Rio Olympics from the 5th - 21st August, that will bring the community together through the universal languages of sport and culture, and raise money for relevant charities. We are looking for support to cover our costs, in exchange for opportunities to be a visible partner and sponsor.

Rio in Dalston kicks off on Friday 5th August with a schedule as diverse and dynamic as the community itself. A host of local talent and special events will be complemented by the Big Screen showing the games in some of Dalston’s favourite outdoor spaces. Expect sports, live music, DJs, percussion, dance, costumes, film, photography, poetry, spoken word, games, workshops and of course Caipirinhas to go with the Brazilian street food and action on screen. Five main events over the 17-day period will celebrate some of Dalston’ values:

    • Fri 5th: Rio in Dalston Opening Night (celebrating Creativity across multiple venues)

        • Includes a Brazilian celebration in Ridley Road Market; City of God at Hackney Downs; Brazilian Jazz at the Vortex; and a Festa Brasilieira with Opening Ceremony at Pond Dalston

    • Wed 10th: Athletes from the Fringes (celebrating Unity in Gillett Square)

    • Sat 13th: Dalston International (celebrating Diversity at Birthdays)

    • Thu 18th: Muhammad Ali Tribute Night (celebrating Self-Expression in Gillett Square)

    • Sun 21st: Bootyard Basketball and Closing Ceremony (celebrating Collaboration in Bootyard)

Other activities with local favourites include a steel pan workshop from Newham Youth Steel Band, two 5km Runs with Goodgym, and a Road Race Weekend with The Hackney Peddler and the Big Screen at Hackney Downs Studios.

    Why should you sponsor?

This is an opportunity to be part of a unique take on the Greatest Show on Earth, and to combine advertising with CSR at scale, with a very positive, vibrant, cool and communal atmosphere.

We aim to actively engage and entertain over 10,000 during the 17 day period with the sport screenings, activities and cultural programme, and to offer visibility to our sponsors to many thousands more.
