One of the ways the 619 Charitable Fund supports worthy causes is the signature event, Reggie Bush Charity Weekend (RBCW), which this year will benefit The Birthday Party Project, a non-profit organization that spreads joy through the magic of birthday parties for children in homeless shelters and transition living, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
This four-day event will take place July 14 to July 17, 2016, commencing with a two-day youth football camp. Reggie and friends are on the field to promote confidence and discipline in young people as they attend a variety of sessions focusing on the importance of leadership and character development. RBCW activities will continue on July 15 with a Celebrity Beach Volleyball Tournament occuring during the "Wimbeldon of Beach Volleyball," the prestigious Manhattan Beach Open, which draws over 40,000 attendees each year. On Saturday, July 15, 100 golfers will hit the links at the exclusive Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe, CA for a Celebrity Golf Tournament, which will generate proceeds to make gifts to The Birthday Party Project and St. Jude. Finally, the evening will conclude with a lavish Gala that will provide live auction and other opportunities to raise the critical funds that will be gifted to the selected childrens' charities.
Though most of our activities take place in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas, our reach can span beyond that. We do not discriminate due to geographic location. Children have come from all over to participate in our youth football camps, however the geographic scope is primarily the Southern California area. These children come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds as the event is complimentary to all children. The charities that benefit from RBCW, on the other hand, have regional offices or clinics all over the country, meaning that we can touch lives anywhere in the U.S. Moreover, each event reaches a different key audience segment. The youth football camp will draw over 600 boys and girls; the beach volleyball tournament will occur during the Manhattan Beach Open, a 15,000 person televised and public event; and the golf tournament and gala event will welcome over 300 attendees. The reach will extend far beyond the this, however, because we are launching an extensive social media campaign that will go to the fan base of Reggie Bush himself (with over 5M twitter followers) as well as our honorary committee members who include Marcus Allen, Tony Gonzales, Michael Strahan, Russell Simmons, Stacy Keibler and many more. Other non-committee celebrities include Brody Jenner and Tyler Hubbard from Florida Georgia Line.
To add to his list of accomplishments, NFL player Reggie Bush strives to create a legacy for our future youth. Now a father of two, he established the 619 Charitable Fund inspired by passion and compassion. Reggie is living proof that children have the potential to be a force for progress and positive social change in their families, communities, and the world. However, they must first be nurtured and protected to reach this capacity. Therefore, the 619 Charitable Fund seeks to support causes that directly benefit youth in their health, education and overall wellbeing.
Early Life
Reggie Bush was born on March 2, 1985 in Spring Valley, California, a suburb 11 miles east of San Diego. Times were tough for Reggie and his mom, Denise, a deputy sheriff at the Vista Detention Facility, and Reggie learned a lot about hard work and overcoming adversity from watching his mother.
In 1999, Reggie entered Helix High School in La Mesa. An excellent athlete in high school, he was nicknamed “Dancing Man” for his quick feet. Parade Magazine honored him on its annual All-American list, and USA Today named him All-USA. For the second straight year, Reggie led the Highlanders to the state title.
Bush received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Southern California, where he played for head coach Pete Carroll’s USC Trojans football team from 2003 to 2005. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest college football players of all-time.
NFL Career
With the number two overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints selected Reggie Bush. Bush was a threat as a runner, returner and receiver, over five seasons with the Saints, playing a key role in a Saints’ offense that has ranked among the NFL’s top ten annually. On February 7, 2010, Bush won his first Super Bowl with a 31–17 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
In 2011 the Saints traded Bush to the Miami where he played two Season with the Dolphins before signing a long term deal with the Detroit Lions on March 13, 2013. In his first season with Detroit, Bush recorded 1,512 total yards, becoming the first Lions running back since Barry Sanders in 1998 to accomplish 1500+ total yards in a season. In 2015 Reggie signed for the San Francisco 49ers.
