About the event

The refugee and UK parliament seminar will highlight the refugee crisis and explore the issue that refugees face; firstly, in their journey to find a stable residence away from conflict, to ultimately UK government policy, whilst touching upon the effect this has upon the wider community.

The seminar will be conducted by keynote speakers and is affiliated with Vicky Foxcroft MP for Lewisham Deptford and Heidi Alexander MP for Lewisham East.

The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) works with Afghans and Central Asians living away from their homeland, providing the support, skills, and knowledge to live and prosper in the UK.

We are a charity organisation who provide English language classes, employment workshops, a womens support group, a Saturday school, youth and family support services, drop-in and telephone advice, volunteer placements, and cultural and social events. The charity also visits individuals and families in detention.

Moreover, ACAA also conducts pioneering work in Afghanistan, and sucessfully developed Citizen's Advice centres in both Kabul and Pul-e Khumri from 2013-2016, which offered free impartial advice on a wide range of issues.

We are looking for a sponsor so that we can project our message into the wider community, and hold a successful seminar enlightening the wider community to the issues of refugees in the UK.

Dr Nasimi, the founder of ACAA, arrived in the UK in 1999, unable to speak a word of English. After studying at Lewisham college, the challenges he faced as a refugee trying to integrate into British society, spurred him into action. He founded ACAA in 2001 to address the needs of refugees and migrants in the UK to improve their quality of life. Ever since, the ACAA has worked tirelessly to advocate it mission, from areas such as education to social cohesion.

ACAA has been funded by organisations such as the Home Office, Lewisham Council, Hounslow Council, Big Lottery Fund and many more.
