Reflection Magazine is a start-up publication that was launched in April of this year. The mission of this publication is to empower young women of color to feel beautiful in our society, daily. According to thefashionspot.com, 84.7% of models of European descent were cast in the Fall of 2015 ad campaigns, and the rest of the percentage were people of color. Being that we are advertised to around 5,000 times a day, seeing a singular image of what is being portrayed as beautiful can have an effect on the self-esteem of young women who don't have those same features. That is why Reflection was created. We want to create a sisterhood among women who are underrepresented. Our target age group is 13-24, because we want to teach young girls growing up in adolescence to love themselves and see the world realistically. We are not a publication selling a fantasy and praising the lives of celebrities. We show praise to any and every young woman that is determined to be successful and who are on the life long journey to self-love.
We are hosting this event not only to celebrate the launch of this new publication, but also to spread the word of what we are doing in the community. We are planning to host it in the city of Chicago, but we are still currently searching for a venue. This event will be free and open to the public. We are targeting young women to come and enjoy themselves, which is why we decided not to charge a fee. Our publication hasn't yet been able to produce any funds, so we are reaching out to sponsors to put this event on. Our theme is Cotton Candy Dreamland, and we really want to transform the venue into a mystical environment. We want to bring the youth of Chicago and Northwest Indiana a fashion forward, youthful event.
