About the event
The Red Lion Challenge is an international tournament in a new sport which is called Medieval Armoured Combat.
Allthough the event itself plays on the location of the medieval market of Hesperange, it is far from the usual swordfighting shows you see around these events. It is a medieval full contact martial art with national teams participating at world championships or international tournaments. There are two worldwide federations for this sport, IMCF and HMBIA. The most famous "Battle of the Nations" world championship, which runs for the 5th time this year, is where Team Luxembourg started to emerge. (HMB-Luxembourg asbl)
The Red Lion Challenge is a tournament based on duels in different categories, both male and female. There will be Profights (like modern Boxing, with weightclasses, rounds, and so on) and 1vs1 duels in either Longsword, Schield & Sword or Poleweapon.
We will have sportsmen from all over the world participating. Among the confirmed inscriptions we have people from Luxembourg, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Poland, Russia and even New Zealand. More countries are preparing their registrations. Among these sportsmen are some very well known international champions.
The event itself will take place on both days with 1 duel category on Saturday and Profights on Saturday evening and the other categories on Sunday.
During the main pause, another association which we organize this event with, D'Arc Angels, will provide a horseback archery show for the public and around the arena there is a medieval market with food and drinks and of course medieval crafts.
