'Presence' Silent Solidarity Women's Walk,

Wolverhampton, England, United Kingdom Wolverhampton, England, United Kingdom

  • About the event

    There are two marches scheduled , of which one I am coordinating , and the other collaborating with.

    The first is a protest and march running between 12-3. I will be attending the networking and organisational meetings for this march , and my walk will commence as the first finishes as a sign of remembrance and prayer at roughly 3.30pm

    Here is the concept/ details behind my art piece;

    It is a silent walk of hopefully 100 women dressed in white that draws on elements of historical costume.
    We will also be wearing purple bows with hundreds to pass out to the community to wear and keep in respect and strength.

    We would also be stopping at particular locations and holding hands , such as the job centre and the courts.

    The idea is to present a silent movement of strength after the uproar of a protest , a living and continuing memory of the presence of women , both in the past , the present and our future.

    In 1913 in washington DC , the first march for women's rights commenced in protest to the inauguration of the new president who threatened their progression for equality.

    With the current political situation in America , with women's marches happening for the very same reason 104 years later , it is important to present an image , a sculpture of historical women in a contemporary context.

    Why should you sponsor?

    It is important to give women a voice in the present political climate.

    Thousands of people will see and be involved in the organisation of these protests and to support this is to support women of the city.

    Thousands will remember who helped make the walks possible.

    There will be media coverage from the express and star and I will tell them who has sponsored me as I have several close connections due to my work at an art gallery.

I work for a CIC which consists of an art gallery , office and photo-studio that gives free space to artists. We are currently establishing the WestSide AQ in Wolverhampton at the moment and collaborate with all other existing art venues across the city including Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the University. We engage with 100's of people a week and run exhibitions every 2 weeks. Flyers and banners , events and social media are used daily to weekly. I can incorporate you into these promotional materials which get shared across these venues. We have already done this with a printing firm who gives us discounts on all our flyer printing and since then , most of our artists have switched to using their company for their printing needs. The company is called Mental Spaces and Asylum Art Gallery.
