About the event

Join us for Musical Tastes - a delicious pairing of live music and food fundraising event in support of Modern Maestro’s community music outreach, including our College Prep Experience. Modern Maestro brings music education to K-12 students living in Prince George’s County. The event will take place on Saturday, May 14^th, 2016 at the Burton Estates in Upper Marlboro, MD from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Because you value music education and understand the significance of the arts in our community, we are asking you to help sponsor this important event. Our success is attributed to the extraordinary people and organizations that have shared our passion for the music – that includes you!

Musical Tastes explores the intersections of food and music, where the menu reflects the live music, creating an authentic culinary experience. Event attendees will be treated to wonderful music by Kino Musica, taste food prepared by Chef Brazil Murphy of Spyce Co., and participate in easy and fun music trivia. These fun activities will demonstrate the joy music in everyday life and the importance of music education. Funds raised at this event will allow us to move forward with transformational music programs throughout the county.

Music is important and Modern Maestro, Inc. believes every student should have the opportunity to flourish and thrive in the arts.  Our goal is to facilitate holistic, meaningful, and enriching music engagement opportunities to students in Prince George's County.  Modern Maestro, Inc. is a place where students can learn, grow, and become their most authentic musical selves. 

Vision

The vision of Modern Maestro is an organization that provides an accessible music education to disadvantaged students through different layers of collaboration. Students will have the ability to participate in any of several groups - traditional chamber ensembles, pop music bands, experimental groups, and groups that involve the latest music technology. Students will have access to a wide variety of talented staff who have experiences combining orchestral and symphonic work with less traditional musical experiences. Students will have the opportunity to receive individual instruction as well as ensemble experience and will be able to parlay their education and experiences into music scholarships for college and, eventually, to careers in music and arts.

Mission

The mission of Modern Maestro is to provide music education to economically underprivileged students in the Washington, DC area, and to promote education through the idea of cultural democracy, that all music is valuable regardless of genre, and each student that chooses to perform in a specific genre deserves a proper education.

About Kino Musica:

About the Chef: 

Chef Brazil Murphy received his Culinary Degree at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. He started his Culinary career at the tender age of 21 with Bon Appetit Mgt. Co., and quickly perfected his culinary skills and became one of the company's Executive Chefs by the age of 25.

He is formerly the Executive Chef at Georgetown Law. Chef Brazil has been providing delicious cuisine for over 12 years in the DC Metropolitan Area. To watch him work is to see true passion ignite. Food really is his first love. Chef Brazil decided that he wanted to have a more personal and intimate setting to share his creations with guests, so he decided to become a personal chef and created SPYCE Co. Event Demographic

The target demographic for this event are young professionals between the ages of 30 to 45, with an interest in the arts, education, advocacy, and social justice. Our demographic has disposable income and take notice of corporations that are supporting local grassroots organizations.
