Mrs. Doubtfire at Emerald Square Mall,

Attleboro, Massachusetts, United States Attleboro, Massachusetts, United States

  • About the event

    Organizational Background

Waffle Hive is a waffles and toppings restaurant at the Still On Main mall in Pawtucket. We are part of a larger community called The Black Block RI, an initiative to create a hub of black entrepreneurs in downtown Pawtucket. This idea was born from the need to create opportunities for our community. The Black Block provides business education as well as economic opportunities for people of color to utilize our talents and take charge of our own narratives and experiences. The Black Block community is why we had the confidence to start a restaurant in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. We felt as though he had the right support to tough it out and put our talents to use.

In light of the pandemic, business has slowed down significantly for many businesses. Therefore, here at Waffle Hive, we organized a pop-up drive-in theater! We created a system that allowed minimal interactions between our staff and patrons, and this allowed families to come out, safely enjoy a movie, and get food delivered straight to their cars! As there were other businesses around us also struggling, we didn’t want to monopolize the event, so at our first drive-in event, we showed short films from local filmmakers and collaborated with other restaurants to fulfill food orders. It was a really unique event where patrons experienced different food and films from the very people in their community. Since then, every drive-in event we’ve hosted has sold out, and we expect that trend to continue.

Last year we had much support from the city and secured a grant to rent the drive-in equipment. We are gearing up to start showing films again and are reaching out to you to help us offset the rental costs by sponsoring future events!

    Why should you sponsor?

Our audience consists of folks from all over Rhode Island, Attleboro, and even Boston. This year, we are showing films in multiple locations; the roof of the parking garage in downtown Pawtucket, the parking garage at the Emerald Square Mall in Attleboro, and the parking lot of Black Lives Matter RI. We show independent films from local filmmakers, family friendly blockbusters, old classics, as well as art films. You can expect lots of families, movie buffs, folks who like to support their community and folks looking for fun things to do. Past experience shows that we will sell out our capacity, and we anticipate an audience of at least 400 at our Pawtucket location where we’ll be having two showings, 400 at our Attleboro location and 200 at our Black Lives Matter location.
