About the event

Brendan McCarthy was a specidal education teacher at Horseheads High School. He coached swimming for the Horseheads Thrashers until 2010, when he resigned to spend more time with his family. In August of 2013, Brendan was diagnosed with ALS. Brendan fought hard but ultimately lost his battle in June of 2015. 

For over 2 years, the Horseheads community (along with countless family and friends) have joined together to support Team McCarthy. We are continuing that support by honoring Brendan's love of running, racing, and recreation by hosting a 5k run/walk and 1 mile fun run at Thorne St. Park in Horseheads, NY on October 18th, 2015.

100% of the proceeds from this race will go directly to the education of Brendan and Killeen's four children, as well as into the scholarship fund, through the community foundation,  at Horseheads High School in memory of Brendan.
