Loaves and Fishes "A Night Under The Stars",

About the event

"A Night Under The Stars" is Loaves and Fishes largest fund raiser of the year.  All proceeds will support our operational expenses of "Nourishing Lives in Contra Costa County. Our Annual Fundraising Gala is taking place on June 3 at the Hacienda De Las Flores in Moraga.  The funds raised will help pay for 30,000 meals as we continue to “Nourish Lives” here in Contra Costa County.

With your support, we know we will be able to reach our greater goal of $80,000 at this event.  Your tax deductible contribution will help feed the hungry of Contra Costa and give you valuable exposure at our event. We would like to leverage your generous donation as match to inspire greater giving by the donors at the event. 

The mission of Loaves and Fishes is to “Nourish Lives” by providing over 155,000 free meals each year at dining facilities in local communities where there is need. We have 5 dining rooms throughout the county where we feed anyone who is hungry and provide resources for other safety net services.  Loaves and Fishes now has a culinary school at the Martinez dining room for disadvantaged youth and adults who are in need of education and employment.   Since 1983, we have served over 4.4 million meals to those in need.   If you want to learn more about Loaves and Fishes, please visit our website at www.loavesfishescc.org.

Why should you sponsor?

Loaves and Fishes is the largest provider of hot meals to the hungry in eastern Contra Costa County. We serve anyone who is hungry.  For many of our clients it will be the only meal they will receive for the day. Our grocery distribution also supplements our client’s nutritional needs by providing additional food to be taken home by our clients. We estimate that we will serve over 155,000 meals and provide more than 180,000 equivalent meals (160 tons of food) through our food pantry program in fiscal year 2016-2017.  There are individuals, families and children struggling in Contra Costa with food insecurity and we know this by the amount of people waiting in lines outside our five dining rooms every day.  Without the Loaves and Fishes program over 750 people living in Contra Costa County would face extreme food insecurity. Food insecurity in adults is associated with a variety of negative physical health outcomes. We serve the housed and homeless, adult men and women, families with children, the elderly, the disabled, and the employed and unemployed.  Most of the people we serve live in poverty, with incomes at or below the federal poverty level. Here are just a few ways in which we improve the lives of people living in Contra Costa County each year:

• At Loaves and Fishes dining rooms no one is turned away who is in need of food.
• We provide a community based dining room where our clients are welcomed and can socialize with other people within their community.
• We provide a food pantry that includes fresh produce. This food pantry allows clients to take food with them for the evening or weekend.
• We provide resources for other safety net services available in Contra Costa County.
• Our services allow the hungry to come have a hot nutritious meal while saving their money for other expenses such as utilities and rent.
