Lilly and friends summer event,

Greensboro, North Carolina, United States Greensboro, North Carolina, United States

  • About the event

On August 20, 2016, I am hosting a community event at Lindley neighborhood park in Greensboro, North Carolina. The purpose for this event is to attempt to bridge the gap between children with disabilities and children without disabilities. Children are children and shouldn't be divided because of their obstacles. Let's bring all children together for summer fun and allow them to meet and play with other children who are unique in their own ways. In this I believe it will inspire children to stray away from judgement before getting to know someone. Let's build a better tomorrow by enabling understanding today.

    Why should you sponsor?

My event should be sponsored because it's in support of a good cause. I believe that teaching children people are different and how to be understanding towards those differences will help build a better tomorrow. Bridging the gap between children who are disabled and non-disabled will enable empathy towards one another and thier personal struggles. Teaching qualities such as understanding and empathy could also lead to a decrease in bullying later on in life. I am only one person and there's only so much one person can do to try and enable change. With the help of a sponsor I would be able to reach a broader audience therefore being more effective.

    Marcelia Strickland

My name is Marcelia Strickland and I'm 23 years old. I grew up in High Point, North Carolina. I have three sisters and one brother. I graduated from High Point Central High school in 2010 and went straight into the United States Army where I did my term of  four years. Six months out of those four years were spent in Afghanistan. I honorably discharged in 2014 and published a childrens book called "A friend for Lilly". This book is about a frog who is a mute and deaf who finds her own creative way to bridge the gap in between her and other children in order for her to make new friends. I intend on my character to impact the lives of children in a positive way and teach them to never let their life obstacles keep them from the things that they want. My main goal is to bridge the same gap my character does in my book in real life.
