Course description
We hold Life Drawing/Portrait Painting classes every Saturday afternoon, in which we will explore different aspects of drawing/painting the human figure. Through understanding the human anatomy (e.g. shape of muscles and skeleton), students will develop their skills in drawing/painting portraiture, hands, feet, movement etc. We will explore the human figure using various mediums such as graphite, charcoal, pastels, ink, oil paint, watercolour and acrylic (or a combination of them).

We invite both male and female professional life drawing models of all age and ethnicities, There will be varying pose times and, depending on the theme of the day, the model will either be nude or clothed. The same model will pose for four consecutive Saturdays to allow the students or artist to develop and complete their art work.

Suitability
The course is open to students of all abilities who wish to excel in their life-drawing and portrait painting abilities. It will be particularly useful for students who wish to create an outstanding portfolio for applying to an art college. It is also essential for anyone wishing to pursue art as a career.

What you will achieve on completing the course
Students will explore the beauty of the human figure, develop good observation skills, perfect the simple techniques of portraiture and learn how to express their inner artist. You will become highly proficient in drawing/painting the human figure with various mediums and in recording different poses in a relatively short space of time. In particular, you will understand how to paint/draw the human figure accurately, to make good use of light and tone in expressing a character and to build up a picture of their life through the use of settings and backgrounds. By the end of the course, you will have produced several high quality drawings/paintings to add to your art collection!
