About the event

The Lemon Sisters Empowerment Retreat started off from very humble beginnings. In 2017, sisters, Norma and Nora Lemon, decided they wanted to do an event (something small) for their girlfriends to have a safe space to chat. In that year, they invited around 15 women to their home and had a small brunch event called, “Cocktails and Conversation.”

The event went very well the first year, and so the next summer, they decided to do it again and they had around 20 ladies. When 2019 came around, it seemed like the year got away from them and they did not have an event. Of course, when 2020 and the pandemic came, any events of this caliber were a no go.

However, during this time of March 2020 – March 2021, both Norma and Nora’s friends went through life altering situations: loss of parents, loss of children (suicide, murder, miscarriage, etc), loss of jobs and income, divorce, loss of home, just a multitude of factors.

In the early summer of 2021, the Lemon Sisters decided they needed to bring this forum back. But they decided to do it a little different. They decided to host the first Lemon Sisters Brunch. At this bruch, they only charged the attendees $30 to attend, and Norma and Nora picked up the rest of the fiscal responsibility. They were very driven by the mission and the reason for this type of work. They wanted to bring 50 women, of all colors, creeds, walks of life, etc, into one room, as a safe-space to talk about women issues. In addition to, each person walked away with an accountability partner.

The event in 2021 was a HUGE success. The ladies raved at being invited to such an event where they could just be women – not moms, wives, daughters, etc. – JUST WOMEN TALKING TO OTHER LIKE MINDED WOMEN !!

After the event was over, Norma and Nora knew they wanted to try something on a larger scale – and that is how the Lemon Sisters Empowerment Retreat was born.

On June 10 – June 11, 2022, the Lemon Sisters will host an event at the Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites in Houston for 100 women. This 2 day event will focus on empowerment, sisterhood and fellowship.

In addition to, all women who attend this conference will also be apart of a larger community service activity where we will donate women’s supplies to the Houston and Fort Bend Women’s Shelter, to help those women who are in need.

We would like sponsors to help support our event because, as women, we all have so many things going on at one time. We have the duties of being moms, wives, daughters, co-workers, boss's, and so much more to so many people - but we often neglect ourselves and not think about self care. 

This retreat, which is only for women, will be a safe-space to share, uplift and empower one another to keep striving to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. 

Norma Lemon-Turner

My name is Norma Lemon-Turner. I am a mom of a 15 year old daughter, a wife and a professional. I work in Healthcare for an EVP and have done so, for the same boss for the past 15 years. 

I have an undergrad degree from Southern University and  Masters Degree from Walden University. I am a Girl Scout Troop Leader for the past 12 years and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I was also recently just nominated for a national Admin of Excellence Award. 

As you can see, I do a lot of things, but I also have a passion for helping others. This idea came to me some years ago and it has flourished over the years. I want to be able to provide a forum for women to feel special and appreciated and be with other life minded women. I have always done this on a small scale, and this year is my first big stab at it.
