Kwantlen Model United Nations Conference,

Surrey, British Columbia, Canada Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

  • About the event

Due to continued success and demand, the Kwantlen Model United Nations club will be hosting its fourth and largest conference to date!

    Introduction and Background

Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations. Students acting as delegates represent their assigned member states to discuss relevant topics including the rights of indigenous populations, protection of children in conflict zones, and the rights of refugees. Delegates will be expected to become experts on the topics and the policies put in place by the international community.

During the three-day conference delegates will debate, cooperate, and use the power of empathy to author a Draft Resolution similar to those produced by the United Nations. This attempt at re-envisioning and re-creating international law has proven to be one of the most prestigious mediums to teach future leaders about the potential and limitations of global politics.

    Attendees

    Students (approx. 100+)

As an internationally recognized conference, attendees to KMUN will be very diverse. Delegates are expected to come from all over the lower-mainland, out-of-province universities and from Washington State. Many of these teams, including our own, travel the world to attend other Model UN conferences. (previous travels include Portland, Melbourne, Brussels, Seoul among others)

In addition to students acting as delegates of the United Nations, there will also be a team of students acting as Journalists of the International Press Corps. This team represents the most talented and capable talent on campus.

    Non-students (Approx. 20)

In addition, leading some teams will be faculty members and university leaders and other sponsors. This year, we have confirmed that representatives from the United Nations Association of Canada (UNAC - Vancouver branch), Kwantlen First-Nations elder and a number of former and current United Nations employees will be attending.
