Whether you are an avid athlete or have never run a mile in your life, Team Butterfly offers an incredible and inspiring experience for an important cause.

Join Team Butterfly in the 2017 Jerusalem Marathon, Half-Marathon, & 10k on Friday March 17th, 2017 and be a part of the cure to EB!

Raise money to fund research for a cure to “The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of” and run with purpose through the beautiful streets of Jerusalem alongside fellow Team Butterfly runners. 

Why should you sponsor?

Since 2012, we have raised over $250,000; this year we aim to significantly add to that figure.

EB - “The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of”- is a debilitating and devastating genetic skin disorder that affects a child from birth. EB is extremely rare and is not specific to any race, ethnicity or gender. A child suffering from EB lacks a critical protein that causes their skin to slide apart, blister and shear off, leading to severe pain, disfigurement, and in many cases, a premature death. Those with EB are often called “Butterfly Children” because as the analogy goes, their skin is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly; for that reason, we are called ‘Team Butterfly’. 

To achieve our goal of creating an EB-free world, Team Butterfly is partnered with Debra of America, the only U.S. non-profit dedicated to funding EB research and providing services to the EB community. 

Over the years, hundreds of participants have run with us in the Jerusalem Marathon. While we attract nationwide participation, a majority of our runners and support come from the New York Tri-State Area. In fact, this year Team Butterfly is running and fundraising in memory of Yisroel Simcha Possick, one our local supporters. Last year, he passed away after a long and courageous battle with EB, he was an inspiring figure that affected so many within the New York Tri-State Area. 

To beat EB, we must rally our communities and recruit those willing to help. Team Butterfly was founded based on the principles of Tikkun Olam, the Jewish concept of repairing the world; with YOUR tax-deductible contribution, "Butterfly Children" worldwide will have a chance to live the way every child deserves to live: pain-free. David Beiss

My name is David Beiss, I am a Baruch College graduate with a degree in Public Affairs. I started Team Butterfly when I was 18 because I have suffered from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) from birth. My goal is to find a cure to EB so no child or family needs to suffer from this rare disease in the future, as well as to provide much needed services and benefits to those currently battling this debilitating disease. I aim to reach Team Butterfly's goals by targeting the younger generations, a group that is traditionally passed over by non-profits. Through various other nonprofits that I have either founded or worked with I have been extremely successful, raising millions of dollars to go to the different charities. My goal is simple: find a cure and end EB. I will do anything to reach that goal and end the suffering of EB children worldwide.
