International Youth Leadership Conference - Dubai,

Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

  • About the event

The international youth leadership conference is a great platform for aspiring and passionate young leaders to embark on a journey to engage in cross cultural dialogues on the world's most pressing problems globally. The youth will enhance their leadership skills and cultural tolerance whilst discussing the sustainability issues, world poilitics, criminal laws, climate change and much more. The IYLC is one of its kind where the delegates are empowered to make a difference in their communities and countries upon returning. The delegates also get a chance to represent their countries and learn about other countries's policies and social venture ideas.

    Why should you sponsor?

I am an undergraduate student at a Pakistani university doing Bachelor's in Physics. However, I come from a middle class family with my dad as the sole bread winner and sponsor of me and three of my sibblings educations.

Despite the financial constraints I have managed to attend one of the best universities in town. Also, I was a delegate of 4ththe Asia Pacific Youth Exchange Thailand, which provoked me to pursue the achievement of the UN's SDGs with increased fervor. I have been participating in many small SDG related activities and look forward to start my own social venture regarding one of the SDGs after graduation. I believe participating in the IYLC will give me further insights into the world's most pressing issues and hands on simulations into the decision making policies. I would be able to enhance my leadership skills, cross cultural understanding and increased knowledge on how to achieve the UN's SDGs within the 13 year proposed time frame. I also look forward to be an inspiration to the youth in my country to be a part of the 2030 agenda and be a good global citizen and a leader!

    Sidra Ali

An ordinary student from a middle class background doing undergraduate in Physics at one of the best universities in town, I am a student who aspires to be an inspiration to the underpriviledged people in my society. With women making only 2.5% of the workforce in Pakistan's whole population, I want to be someone who breaks the taboo. I want to raise women's involvement in the STEM fields, in law and politics and to be treated equally.

However, reaching one's potential in every walk of life doesn't require IQ or better universities but the grit. During my curriculum studies in BS Physics at university I have learnt to be dynamic in problem-solving skills and maintain a decent work ethic. Also, as the girl's representative of my batch I have a great sense of responsibility towards the tasks assigned to me to be completed within due time and to maintain the trust of people who believe in you. As a delegate of the 4th Asia Pacific Youth Exchange, Thailand I enhanced my interpersonal and communications skills with cross cultural groups of people from all over the world. I acquired skills and patience required for great team work. I learnt to be more tolerant towards people and be more compassionate that leads to more effective solutions and much better identification of the indicators regarding the SDGs.

Also, during my course curriculum at university we tackle much challenging courses that require a great deal of problem-solving and critical thinking skills. These skills are not only useful in physics but are a great gift in everyday life. Because, working out solutions is not the only task but identifying the indicators and planning and advocating according to every communities's needs is also very important as every individual is different from another that makes every community unique on its own. And that's what it means to achieve the UN's SDGs completely, i.e., Leave No One Behind. Truly no one!
