The Afro Caribbean International Music Festival is a landmark event that will bring together African and Caribbean musical styles to a multicultural audience in New York City. Through live music, dance, art and comedy performances, the creativity of the Diaspora will be celebrated by it's fans and introduced to a growing and engaged audience.
West African and Carribean Music is on the rise internationally, and this is a unique opportunity to help shepard that growth in the United States. The diaspora community is growing in the US and is hungry for these sorts of cultural events that bring together the high points of their cultures. Diaspora millenials are tech-savvy, social media connected, and upwardly mobile with increasing amounts of disposable income. More and more, these youth are using the internet and technology to connect with their home countries to learn about the newest music, fashion, and culture, and bringing this information home to their own communities. Afro-Caribbean artists have huge followings among this community and they will be incredibly engaged in the promotion of this event.
Big Moose entertainment was founded in 1997 by Musliu Oridami, Commonly known as Big Moose. The intention was to provide Nigerians throughout New York City with events where their culture would be celebrated and appreciated in a comfortable and safe environment. Big Moose Entertainment has evolved from a vision of freedom and community building into an international entertainment organization. The concept behind Big Moose Ent. was to create a culture within the growing hip-hop era that young Nigerians could associate with. Back in 1997 most young Nigerians were tired of going to house parties, where they couldn't afford or didn't feel comfortable enough to let loose and enjoy themselves. Moose and his friends felt the need to create an environment where young Nigerian men could meet young Nigerian women and vice versa. The group prides themselves in having thrown the only Nigerian based hip-hop party in New York City before 2000. This group arguably started the trend of Naija Entertainment as it is widely known today. The long term mission of Big Moose entertainment Has always been to elevate the next-generation of entertainers within the Nigerian culture into mainstream American pop culture. The founder, Musiliu Odami, has always felt tasked with the challenge of cultivating an environment where young people could let out their personalities, and stay true to the culture they all have in common.
Big Moose has earned respect across all generations of Nigerians both in America and abroad as well as other west African nations both in America and abroad. His growing reputation a CERT confidence and was a grump guiding factor in allowing Nigerian parents to feel comfortable in allowing their teenage and young adult children to attend his events and parties. "We were so bold and confident that we would personally invite people in the presence of their parents. We went to the extent of mailing invitations to their homes and addressing it to their parents".
By actively introducing parents to Big Moose entertainment events it opened a can of worms, parents became chauffeurs for these early partygoers driving their children to the events and picking them up. "I remember that we would stay back into the last person was picked up or at least have a ride home and if not, we would drive them home. Even if that meant going from Brooklyn to Yonkers at 6 AM." Following up on our promise of a safe and comfortable environment was important to us then and we went to great lengths to ensure the safety of the community. We take that same integrity and to all events that we hold up until today.
