Dave & Buster's, Silver Spring, Maryland, United States Dave & Buster's, Silver Spring, Maryland, United States

  • About the event

Join us at Dave & Busters in Silver Spring for a family-friendly evening of games, food, and fun, presented by Cloudy Heaven Games! Guests will have the chance to play and test video games created by a few local game developers, win prizes, talk to developers about how to make video games, and enjoy a delicious buffet!

Guests will also have access to hundreds of games and simulations on Dave & Busters' famous Million Dollar Midway, including chances to win even more prizes in D&B's Winner's Circle.

    Why should you sponsor?

The purpose of the 3-hour event is to provide guests with the opportunity to play games created by local game developers, while helping nearby businesses connect with those guests as potential new customers. We plan for this to be the first of many events, and would like to cultivate relationships with local businesses for cross-marketing opportunities and promotion. There is an active local game development community in the DC area, as well as an unexploited opportunity for game developers and local businesses to partner in bringing value to the community and exposure and patronage to our respective product offerings.

In addition to providing games for entertainment, one of Cloudy Heaven Games' biggest goals is to provide educational opportunities for community members to learn computer science, programming, and game development. We want to make learning fun, and in this pursuit, I have taught workshops, spoken at events, written books, and tutored. At this event, attending community members will have the opportunity to speak with game developers to learn more about the video game industry and how to make their own games.

    Dorothy Phoenix

I am a game developer and the owner of Cloudy Heaven Games, a small game development startup. Prior to starting my company, I worked professionally as a software engineer and tester. I have experience teaching students, from teenagers to adults, how to program and make games, as well as making my own games.

Having attended and presented at many game conferences and expos, as well as having done my own marketing and promotion, I know how difficult it can be for game developers to stand out and attract players, especially since there is so much competition.

I see a similar problem for traditional, brick-and-mortar businesses as well, it's so hard to attract and keep customer attention.  After having seen so many local businesses close up shop, I thought it would be a great time to try a different approach to help promote local games and other traditional businesses at the same time.  We have a common goal, so let's partner and bring in new business!
