About the event

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).This year, SAAM is celebrating its 19th anniversary with the theme, “I Ask” focusing on consent. On Saturday April 11th, join us for a variety show full of beautiful and powerful performances of poetry, live singing, burlesque and drag from local performers. There will also be a silent auction and prize drawing. All proceeds will go to SafePlace (https://www.safeplaceolympia.org) SafePlace is the only approved domestic violence service provider for Thurston County as designated by WA State DSHS, and the only 24-hour Community Sexual Assault Program for Thurston County, accredited by Washington State. Goals of SAAM include: Raising public awareness about sexual harassment, assault, and abuse and educating communities on how to prevent it. Please keep in mind this show may contain sensitive and mature content.

It is a social responsibility to protect one another. Organizations such as SafePlace or others that support sexual assault prevention, education and victim advocacy helps keep the community stronger and more connected.

I am a number of things. One being sexual assault survivor and another being an Army veteran. I support my family through hard work and performance art and believe in the importance of healing through art. Having the ability to give back to the community where I have decided to retire within is important to me and I deeply believe in the benefits of what organizations like SafePlace for sexual assault survivors and families.
