  • About the event

    Heroes Ultra

Heroes Ultra is a unique ultramarathon to be staged in Crete, Greece, for the first time on 21 May 2016. The 153km course traces the escape route of the 1944 Kreipe abduction, a legendary WWII special ops missios in which Major Patrick Leigh Fermor and Captain William Stanley Moss of the British Special Operations Executive planned and, with the help of local resistance cells, executed the kidnap of the German commanding officer in Crete, General Heinrich Kreipe.

    Target Audience

Participants in Heroes Ultra will be seasoned ultra/trail runners, predominantly from Europe (UK, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, France and Italy) and the US. The typical profile of such participants suggests an affluent background with household income in excess of $110,000, average age of 45 years and 80/20 male/female split. In addition to our core audience, we aim to promote the event internationally within military sports clubs as a "battlefield challenge".

The event will also draw from a pool of 80-100 younger volunteers from local sports clubs and significant crowds are expected along the route from the local community which has strong ties to the history underlying the event.

    Promotion

An integrated online presence is at the core of the promotion strategy for Heroes Ultra, complimented by targeted publicity in specialist and generalist publications.

    - HeroesUltra.com: Operational since a mid-September soft launch provides information on the event for interested parties. Registrations and full content to go live late October.

    - Facebook & Twitter: Heroes Ultra event page already past 1,600 Likes, following soft launch.

    - YouTube: Quality original trailers and teaser videos of the course and kidnap story to be added on YouTube to compliment the late-October go live.

    - Greek press coverage: Targeting broad-circulation press for promotional articles in early November, as well as local and national TV partners for coverage of the event and activities around it.

    - International press coverage: Mostly international specialist publications in running, trail running and adventure sports sections.
